Back at “The Venny”

I am in Melbourne at the moment and this afternoon we went back to “The Venny” to meet up with the kids again and leave some copies of my books there.

“The Venny” is an after school drop-in centre for kids 5-16yrs at JJ Holland Park, Kensington. It was initially funded by Gough Whitlam’s government and has recently had ALL of its funding taken away by the Tony Abbott government!!! Work that out. It caters for the kids living in the surrounding high rise apartments who have no back yards.

Sally Heinrich and I had a mini launch of our book One Step at a Time in March this year and it was a fabulous experience to meet everyone involved.

The centre has just received approval to be listed as a charity which will help greatly with fundraising now to keep this vital centre open. It really is the soul of the community there.

So any philanthropists reading this looking fort a good cause…I recommend this. Today there were kids from Ethiopia, Iran, Fiji and Egypt…just a few of the nationalities who attend.
