On my recent travels through Pt Augusta I stopped to visit the grave of Alf Harris, the Tea and Sugar train “Father Christmas” for whom Tea and Sugar Christmas is dedicated.
He is buried in the Stirling North Cemetery and his headstone has a locomotive on it. His wife Nancy, who appears in one of the Youtube clips about the Tea and Sugar train is buried beside him.
Had a bit of a sniff around Pt Augusta: the railway station and the old turntable on which the train was swung around on. Lots of train memorabilia in the town and it needs a dedicated week to check it all out. That will be another time…when it is a bit cooler!
