The Glacier Express

Well that was the trip of a lifetime! The most spectacular views all the way, of the Swiss alps and the little hamlets along the way, as well as cows in the fields and horses in the barns.

For those of you who like stats the train went as high as 2033m at place called Oberallpass, and went across 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels.

We got out for a photo opportunity at Oberallpass, which was a great experience.

Photos below give a quick glimpse of our day, which ended at Zermatt and the mighty Matterhorn.

I think it is red so you can see it amongst the snow

Just one of the little hamlets in the valleys we went through

Had just gone over this bridge

This is how rich passengers dine!

And this is how we did it…peanut paste sandwiches!

Cute

Snow, snow and more snow. That’s what we came for.

And finally to Zermatt and our first view of the Matterhorn. More on that in next blog!

So on our first morning in Zermatt we woke to soft, silent snow falling. Magical!
