Only In India

What an interesting day we had today. Went by taxi to look at Everest House but it was such a long walk going seemingly nowhere that we gave up. Then went along Camel Back Road to go to the old Mussoorie Cemetery which has some very interesting old graves, only to find it locked!!

Drove out to Lal Tibba again to try and spot the Himalayas but still no luck.Too cloudy and misty. Stopped at the Landour Cemetery where we paid to have the gate unlocked and had a look at some old graves hidden amongst the undergrowth. The cemetery keeper had a beautiful dog chained up, perhaps a guard dog, who knows?

Continued on into the bazaar where we came across a band and a group of followers carrying a Hindu shrine. Not sure what it was all about but it was noisy and fun.Went on to Cambridge Book Shop where I met Ruskin Bond. I bought two of his books and got them signed by him and then gave him three of my books and signed them for him. Had a lovely chat with him while this was all going on.

We then saw a sadhu who began to dance around a bit when he saw us. He has the most beautiful face as you will see in the photo below.

On arriving home six langur monkeys jumped from the roof onto a tree right outside Mia’s bedroom window, so we sat watching them as they swung around the tree and ate the fruit from the branches.

Just another day in India!

  1. Hi Jane,
We’ve just had some quiet time to read your blog while the little man is having a sleep. So lovely to hear about your adventures – and we can just picture how much Mia would be loving all the animal antics (and food?). It would have been lovely to have an evening with good food and world travelers….. I’m just a little jealous. Great photos too, thanks! Love Woodsy jnrs

  2. Hi Jane , Ian & Mia!
Finally I got to your blog! I had no end of trouble for some reason. I am sitting in the sun listening to all the wonderful bird life in my garden. Unfortunately not as exciting as monkeys!I have seen some pics and it looks like u r having a rather good time. It is the first Monday of the school holidays and yes, I have a rotten cold. I won’t bore u with school trivia, only to say I’ve lost Kerri’s citizenship paper work. I have turned the room upside down had a clean up in the process and it still is somewhere. Any ideas? Sports day was a wash out so is thursday wk1 next term. We didn’t check out your blog as a class as planned. I don’t know where the time goes every day . Anyway, until next time, stay safe and have fun ! Cheers! Kim.

  3. Hi Jane,
Great to read of your family adventures in India. It is finally school holidays so I am trying to catch up on a few jobs related to our Costume business. Unfortunately the Sport’s Carnival was postponed until thursday T4 week 1. Marg Bartlett was not impressed as it is the second time that she took long service and tried to avoid sports day but both times it was resheduled. I have a term 4 contract as head of campus at Milang while Paul Jude is on term 4 leave. The new headmaster seems a a great assets for the future school’s development. Enjoy and keep the reports coming.Michael S
